okay…it has training wheels, but it also has a chain, handbrake and a waterbottle..which was a huge plus for the boy…he thought it was VERY cool that you could put water-or any other beverage-on your bike.
needless to say, Evan loves his hotwheels bike. he’s been on it all weekend at our house, my sister-in-law’s house and my mom’s house. it’s had to travel with him that’s how much he loves it. here’s a couple pics of the boy with his new toy:

We had a great time up on the mountain today with the folks….it was an absolutely gorgeous day and Evan and my mom had so much fun outside. Rob grilled out hamburgers and hotdogs and we had all the trimmings and then made and decorated sugar cookies for dessert. I did all the food prep and didn’t even take a picture all day! but it’s nice to just sit back and enjoy and not worry about capturing the perfect moment, know what I mean?
The hard part of the day is that Evan keeps asking the question “when do people die?” and it’s been hard talking to a 4 year old about this topic. I’m going to have to spend some time tonight looking up some articles about talking to children about death. ah…the joys of raising a child!
Evan is really proud of all the help that he’s been giving my mom with her plants around her house and the grandparents house. He’s helped her plant and feed and water a slew of green things. It was fun to watch him run around with her today taking care of his plants
I’m surprised they haven’t shut it down for in-activity!
so, commencement is over and I survived another one…my 10th at Vanderbilt and my 6th as director. It was a beautiful day, with an estimated 16,000 in attendance at the main ceremony! One of our biggest ever. I also got to meet Muhammad Yunus! He’s the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner and he was a fabulous speaker. He created the idea of micro-lending (basically small loans to very poor people not requiring collateral) and he was so inspiring…and a most personable man. I got to drive him around on my golf cart at one point during his visit and he was so approachable and kind. He just exuded good karma
(oh, and ignore my double chin please…I tried to get the photographer to get me from above, but oh well….)

Otherwise, I’m still trying to make up for all the sleep I lost…I think I’d have to sleep for a whole week to do it! There are just not enough hours in the day!
Tomorrow we’re heading up to Sewanee (my hometown) to visit my mom and my grandparents…I haven’t seen them in too long! It’s been about 4 or 5 weeks and I never go that long without seeing them! It’s going to be a beautiful day tomorrow, so I’m sure my mom and Evan will spend lots of time outside playing. I’m going to cook for them for mother’s day and I haven’t even decided what I’m cooking yet!
ok…off to bed for me…long drive and lots to do tomorrow!
