Rob and I are sitting here flipping channels with a bottle of Veuve-Clicquot awaiting the new year. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2006!

My grandfather had a small stroke on Christmas Eve morning and spent the night in the hospital. He’s doing fine now and came home yesterday in plenty of time to open presents at their house, take a nap and then eat a large Christmas dinner. It totally upturned Christmas for us, but we were so thankful that a) it wasn’t a bad one and b) he got to come home on Christmas day.

Evan had a great Christmas and loves his GeoTrax.
Dsc01444He got tons of stuff and I’m going to have to take a dump truck load of stuff to GoodWill in order to make room for it all. For me it was the year of the jacket, as I got a leather one from my in-laws (which is awesome because I’ve never had one before) and a really cool coat from the Gap from my mom. My MIL actually got 4 of us coats:

And Cara, if you’re reading, I cooked a kick-ass turkey yesterday and dressing that even you would compliment :)

The Nun Bun was stolen from Bongo Java early this morning. The thief took nothing else. According to the the police report, "As stolen goods, the bun was classified in property category No. 77, for “other.”

For those of you who do not know about the Nun Bun, it’s a cinnamon bun which earily resembled Mother Teresa and was baked at Bongo Java (a coffee hangout) here in Nashville. It became world famous for about 15 minutes, but it’s been on display at Bongo Java in Hillsboro Village near Vandy since 1996.

I have to laugh because the theft actually made the front page of our local daily, The Tennessean, and it was even above the fold! Of course it’s big news for Nashville, I suppose. I blog this mostly for Cara, but I do have to wonder what someone would want with a bun that has been shallacked and petrified since 1996…

So we’re clenaing like mad getting ready for my mom and my grandparents to stay over tomorrow night have spend Christmas Day with us. I’ve still got to bake some more sherry cakes and also the cornbread for tomorrow’s stuffing. Shoot, I just remembered that I forgot to take the turkey out of the freezer!!!! Okay…Rob’s been dispatched to put it in the fridge.

I spent a little bit of time today making gift tags for the presents we haven’t wrapped yet (we haven’t wrapped a thing!). I downloaded the kit from Heather Ann Designs and I just love the way it turned out so I thought I’d share.

So, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and that you get to spend it with friends and family. I will be missing my family in Michigan (hi Jenny and Jess!), my uncle and cousins in France (bonjour Chrystelle et Joelle!) and my friend Cara in Florida.

So here, on video, is Evan opening his first Christmas present. This is the year he “gets” Christmas (at least the part about Santa bringing presents and leaving them under the tree. He’s not sure that we should be giving other people presents, but we’re working on that one). It’s a bit long, so I won’t be offended if you don’t watch it :)

(now you say: how cold was it??)

It was so cold at my house this morning when my cat ran outside and sat in the sun, I could see steam rising off of her!

Seriously, when I got up this morning and checked it was 10 degrees outside! It’s not fair to be that cold and not get any snow or anything…really….it’s not fair. At least if I have to be cold, let there be some snow to make the cold look pretty (as long as I’m at home and I have copious supplies of milk and toilet paper*)

*some non-southerners might not realize that when we’re threatened with snow, we rush Kroger for toilet paper and milk. Now we can also rush Publix instead of Kroger if we wish.

Cjday3 Yes, I’m terribly behind with my Christmas journal, but I’m working on it. I’ll be caught up before it’s over :)

Journaling on the tags is about how I go to the after Christmas sales and buy boxes of christmas cards, knowing full well that I’ve got unopened boxes at home from last year. This year I am vowing to resist the temptation. I even went to Target today and passed the aisle right by.

evil sinus infection?

Okay, I’m tired enough that I’m not thinking straight, so I’ll share. Now, one of the reasons I’m doing this is to try to break a few inhibitions about scrapbooking…such as everything has to be perfect! I’m such a perfectionist that sometimes it totally paralyzes me in the creative department to the point that I’ll walk away from my work for fear of it not being "right" (whatever that means)…..

Evan is with my mom this weekend, so the hubby and I are cleaning, painting, purging, fixing and otherwise trying to overhaul our house without Evan here. Rob’s doing a second coat of our bathroom. I just got done purging, cleaning and sorting all of Evan’s toys. One almost-three-year-old should NOT be allowed so many toys. And he’s just going to get more for Christmas…not many from us, but from our families. ::::sigh::::  We’re going to be giving a lot away to friends who have just had (congrats Kiezha and Sean!) or will be having (Katherine and Daniel) babies.

The impetus of the frenzied cleaning, my friends, is two-fold. I want to have the tree up when Evan gets back tomorrow and my mom and my grandparents will be spending the night at our house on Christmas Eve. Both good things, but it had been a long time since Evan’s toys had been in complete control of not only our living room but his room as well.

Next up: the bathroom in the hallway (mild shudder here because I need to scrub the bathtub and I hate that).

If I’m still awake after that, I’ll be retiring to my "studio" :::coughextrabedroomcough:::: and work on shimelle’s christmas journal challenge. There are awesome women in this group…and they do awesome art too! I haven’t decided if I’ll post my stuff, but if I’m tired enough I might :)

I hope ya’ll have had a more amusing Saturday than me. Did I mention I had to go to Wal-Mart? Do I even have to explain the insanity?

Well, I’d better get back to cleaning. Rob has given me a couple of sideways glances, so I know he’s thinking I need to be up and about.

a bientot.
